Frequently Asked Questions

What file types does Escribir open? Markdown (.md, .markdown), Fountain screenplays (.fountain), and plain text (.txt). In the project window, every text file in the folder opens in the editor regardless of its extension.

Does styling change my files? No. Syntax styling is a display setting, never a document setting. Toggling it never touches a character — the file on disk stays byte-identical.

Where are my files stored? On your device, as plain text, wherever you put them. Escribir has no accounts, no sync service, and no proprietary format.

How do I open a folder as a project? File › Open Project… (⇧⌘O) opens a folder in the project window with a sidebar file tree. The folder is remembered across launches.
