Privacy Policy

Escribir is published by Intrusive Memory Productions. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the Escribir app and the escribir.app website, and how that information is handled.

Your Documents Stay on Your Device

Escribir is a text editor for Markdown, Fountain screenplays, and plain text. Your documents are stored as plain text on your device, in folders you choose. Escribir never transmits, copies, or indexes your documents to any server operated by Intrusive Memory Productions or any third party. There are no accounts, no sync service, and no server component.

Git Integration and Network Connections

On the Mac, Escribir can clone, commit, and push git repositories. These are the only network connections the app makes, and every one of them happens because you asked for it:

  • Git operations connect directly to the git host you specify (for example, GitHub). When you clone, fetch, or push, that host receives your IP address, your credentials, and the repository contents involved — exactly as it would if you ran git from the command line. Nothing is proxied through servers operated by Intrusive Memory Productions.
  • GitHub sign-in and API requests (for example, the repository picker and the pre-push check of your SSH keys) go directly from your device to GitHub, using a token that is stored in your device’s Keychain. Your use of GitHub is governed by GitHub’s privacy statement.
  • SSH identities you import or generate in Escribir are stored in your device’s Keychain. Escribir does not read ~/.ssh outside of an explicit import you initiate, and never transmits private keys anywhere.

If you never use the git features, Escribir makes no network connections at all.

Crash Reporting and Diagnostics

Escribir participates in standard Apple platform crash-reporting programs:

  • TestFlight (pre-release): Crash logs and basic device diagnostics are shared with Intrusive Memory Productions via Apple’s TestFlight service according to Apple’s TestFlight privacy terms.
  • App Store (release): If you have opted in to share analytics with app developers in your iOS or macOS settings, Apple may provide anonymized crash reports and performance metrics. You can review and change this setting in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements on your device.

Crash reports do not contain your documents, file names you were editing, or any other creative work.

No Document Telemetry

Intrusive Memory Productions does not collect, store, transmit, or analyze:

  • The documents you write or edit.
  • Your project folders, file names, or repository lists.
  • Any usage analytics, advertising identifiers, or tracking data.

This is a structural guarantee of the local-first architecture, not a policy promise alone. Outside of the git operations you explicitly initiate, the app has no mechanism to send anything anywhere.

Website Analytics

The escribir.app website is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log standard web server access logs (IP address, browser type, referring URL, page visited, timestamp) in accordance with GitHub’s privacy statement. Intrusive Memory Productions does not embed analytics scripts, advertising trackers, or third-party pixels on escribir.app.

Data Retention and Deletion

Because Intrusive Memory Productions never receives your documents, there is nothing to delete from our servers. Your documents live in the folders you chose, as plain text — uninstalling Escribir does not touch them, because they were never held in a proprietary store. Uninstalling the app removes its preferences, recent-item lists, and saved folder bookmarks. SSH identities and git credentials stored in the Keychain can be removed from within the app or with Apple’s Keychain Access utility. Repositories Escribir cloned remain on disk until you delete them, from within the app or in the Finder.

Children’s Privacy

Escribir is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — including children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact support@escribir.app and we will take steps to delete it.

Changes to This Policy

Intrusive Memory Productions may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app or website after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
